How to Control Excessive Sweating - 2 Key Ways to Reduce Perspiration
There are many ways to control excessive sweating. Some are better than others - find out which one is right for you in this article.
Excessive sweating is problematic for many people. Usually, the biggest problem is the embarrassment caused by being in social situations and many of the below cures address this.
Addressing The Anxiety
One approach to controlling this problem is to look at the anxiety. A lot of people sweat mostly when they are in a social situation or fearing the embarrassment to come.
If this is you then antidepressant drugs could help. They won’t actually address the root cause of the problem but they will prevent the triggers for it. There are a whole family of different but similar drugs and your doctor will probably want to experiment to see which is best.
Plugging The Pores
The other ways of addressing the problem are to stop the sweat from coming out. Your doctor will almost certainly ask you to try an extra strength antiperspirant. These are only applied once a week and have itchy or burning sensation side effects but they are very effective.
Other treatments like botulinum toxin or iontophoresis work by stopping the sweat glands producing any sweat. They will work for anywhere between weeks to months before repeat treatment is needed, however they are not cheap.
The Problem With Plugging The Sweat
The problem with these methods is that when you stop sweat coming out of one part of the body, they will just come out of another part instead.
So you will get more sweating in another area, usually the back or the chest. This is called compensatory sweating. So you are still basically an excessive sweater.
